What’s Fresh This Week – July 8

Barber’s Farm: First new potatoes! Candy and red tropea onions, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, summer squash, slicing and pickling cucumbers, beets, fennel, lettuce and cooking greens, plus squash blossoms!

Four Wheel Farm: Squash flowers, baby zucchini, cut flowers and perennials. Buy one perennial for $10.00 and get another for $5.00–other bargains too.

Mariaville Farm: Fresh chicken processed on the farm every Thursday. Shiitake and grey dove oyster mushrooms; $4.00 a pint. Pair them with Black Angus steaks or our delicious sausages.

Ali Herrmann: A beautiful new matted watercolor illustration inspired by my favorite fruit–strawberries. Plus an array of semiprecious stones wired into beautiful sterling earrings–a treat for the ears and eyes!

Dutch Desserts: European style fruit tarts made with local fruit (apple, blueberry, mixed berry, peach, peach-raspberry, raspberry, sour cherry, and strawberry-rhubarb), plus our famous fudgy chocolate tart with Belgian chocolate. Stop by for a sample.

Cafe NOLA: blackened chicken Caesar salad, grilled portabella mushroom sandwich, plus blackened sandwiches: fresh catfish or chicken filet coated with Cajun spices and topped with sweet peppers and mozzarella cheese. Wash it down with iced tea, sweet tea, Arnold Palmers or fresh squeezed lemonade: raspberry, strawberry, or cherry.

Mosaics by Christine: In recognition of July Fourth, enjoy a 10% discount on any mosaic with red, white or blue! New tables, lazy Susans, and trivets available.

Chick and Hen Baking Company: Fresh fruit tarts with local raspberries and blueberries, tomato gazpacho, roasted beet salad, sesame noodles, hand-tossed roman pizzas, empanadas, spinach and feta pie and quiche.

Three Chicks and a P: 3 Olives Hummus, artichoke tapenade. Sample your favorites including cilantro lime, tasty mango black bean salsa, and our new pineapple habanero salsa. From our family to yours!

I'm an events planner by day, a food blogger by night! I have always loved cooking and baking (especially), and was organically trained in culinary skills by my talented and resourceful mother. When it comes to food, I am sometimes inspired, sometimes lazy, and just about always hungry. My favorite food is hummus.
