What’s Fresh This Week – June 24

Summer Has Finally Arrived!

Celebrate the season with the summer’s freshest fruits and vegetables, which are starting to appear at the market! Cherries, peaches, plums, strawberries, raspberries…broccoli, cucumbers, cauliflower, peas, greens….the summer’s most delicious treats are available now from your favorite Schenectady Greenmarket vendors. And this Sunday is looking to be a beautiful sunny day – a great opportunity for you to celebrate the beginning of summer with a day out with friends and fellow market shoppers!

What’s Fresh This Week

Maynard Farms: Peaches, sweet cherries, black plums, blueberries, raspberries, and new crop Lodi apples (they make the best “with attitude” applesauce). Veggies: snow, snap and English shell peas; cauliflower, broccoli, garlic, rainbow chard, collards, two kinds of kale, zukes and cukes.

Barber’s Farm: fresh lettuce, edible pod peas, broccoli, cabbage, yellow summer squash, zucchini, slicing and pickling cucumbers, and garlic scapes.

Burden Lake Creamworks is offering peppermint hand, face and body cream for summer – enhanced with cocoa butter and the sweet vanilla fragrance of balsam essential oil.

Mariaville Farm: Fresh chicken, duck, and eggs. No-nitrate sausage and bacon. Heritage pork and dry aged pasture raised Black Angus beef. Visit Café NOLA for one of our Black Angus burgers!

Funk Farms: Strawberry-rhubarb pies made from fresh local produce. Don’t miss out on this sensational seasonal treat.

Chick and Hen Baking Company: It’s too hot to cook – stop by and have some of our cold gazpacho! We will also have: peasant rolls and stuffed ciabatta loaves; éclairs; chickpea salad; sundried couscous and Caprèse panzanella salad with fresh mozzarella and basil; sesame chicken with homemade apricot mustard; black bean, chicken chipotle, or beef and cheese empanadas; quiche; and our famous spinach feta pie. See you there!

Mosaics by Christine: It’s going to be a hot Sunday – so stop by and check out our cool new tables, chess sets, trivets and more.

Three Chicks and a P will have all your fresh homemade hummus flavors including our Flavor of the Week – artichoke. We will also have our olive tapenade, and we’ll be introducing our newest tasty treat: black bean mango salsa. Ask us about our hummus-themed party platters, perfect for your graduation party or picnic and Fourth of July celebration!

I'm an events planner by day, a food blogger by night! I have always loved cooking and baking (especially), and was organically trained in culinary skills by my talented and resourceful mother. When it comes to food, I am sometimes inspired, sometimes lazy, and just about always hungry. My favorite food is hummus.
