What’s fresh this week – May 13

Ready for Mother’s Day?

Flowers, fruit, vegetables, and herb plants – oh my! Vendors are ready to go with fresh produce, value-added and hot foods, milk, wine and beer, crafts and more. Our wide variety of vendors plus live music and community groups continue to help make Schenectady Greenmarket a favorite Sunday destination. Everything you love about the outdoor market is back, and as May progresses we’ll only see more!

What’s fresh this week

Ali Herrmann: I’ll be bringing new encaustic artworks!

The Peanut Principle: We will have a good supply of nut and seed butters. If you have a special request, call us by Friday: 783-8239.

Lloyd Spear Beekeeper: We have two exciting new products: Lemon Spun Honey, a delicious addition to our line of creamed honey for use in tea, on bread or rolls, or just for eating – smooth, creamy and yummy. Also introducing Raw Spun Honey with Pollen added – great tasting and good for you! Stop by for free honey samples and a free sticker.

Mosaics by Christine has plenty of colorful last minute Mother’s Day gifts available: lazy Susans, trivets, mirrors and much more. Not sure what to buy? What about a mosaic gift certificate!

Wellington’s Herbs and Spices: We’ll have fresh Swiss chard, mustard greens, lettuce and parcel.

Café NOLA will be bringing Blackened Chicken, Catfish, or Grilled Portabella sandwiches – fresh catfish or chicken fillet (or fresh mushroom) coated with NOLA’s Cajun Blend spice, then blackened and topped with sweet peppers and mozzarella cheese; $6. Braised Short Ribs – tender ribs of beef quickly braised then simmered with Abita Turbo Dog beer, carrots, celery, onions and tomatoes; served over dirty rice; $6. Gluten free dirty rice, $5; freshly squeezed lemonade, strawberry lemonade, raspberry lemonade, sweet tea, iced tea, and half and half; plus NOLA’s very own Cajun Blend spice, $6.

Healing Path Massage won’t be at the market this week. We are there the 3rd Sunday of the month in the summer – see you on the 20th!

peacetree plants: brassicas, onions, leeks, lettuces and other specialty greens (mache, chicories and endives, watercress, sorrel), fennel, cardoons, rhubarb, strawberries, cool-weather herbs, perennial flowers, and early annual flowers – all for planting in your garden now!

Pixie’s Preserves: We’ll have fresh asparagus again this week!

Burden Lake Creamworks: Fresh Peppermint Shea is now available – good for the respiratory system, and enhanced with yummy cocoa butter!

Ben’s Brew: We’ll have three beers for sale in 64oz reusable bottles and for small tastings: Open Saison, a very classic Belgian farmhouse style ale – light, very crisp, fruity, and enough hops to round it out beautifully. A perfect end to a day at a hot farmers market! The Keeping Biere, a French style farmhouse ale – sweet, with very deep and rich malt focused flavors. Lastly, Harvest Ale – an aged sour beer brewed with various spices and squash. Unique and tasty!

Mariaville Angus Farm: Fresh chickens, fresh eggs, and fresh duck! Our chickens and ducks are all pasture raised and never leave the farm. We process them ourselves. We’ll also have ground pork, a nice variety of cuts of pork to chose from, and dry aged Black Angus beef.  Stop in to see this week’s special!

Chick and Hen Baking Company: Street food for the summer: cool tomato gazpacho, panini sandwiches, quiche of the day, empañadas, and sesame chicken with our homemade apricot mustard. Try our new prepared salads to-go including Israeli couscous, orzo romano, and garbanzo bean. Of course we’ll have our yummy sweets, too! See you there.

Meadowood Farms: Vanilla, maple, latte, and plain sheep’s milk yogurt. Fresh herbed sheep’s milk cheese and our Vizcaya, a raw aged manchego style sheep cheese!

Bard Farm: Stop by for Mother’s Day specials; we have beautiful hanging baskets! See our variety of flowers, hanging baskets, herbs, vegetable plants, lettuce plants, and yellow and red strawberry plants.

Funk Farms will have homemade apple pies and a cinnamon pastry log special for Mother’s Day.

Three Chicks and a P will have all your favorite homemade hummus flavors including this week’s new flavor – Garlic and Chives. We’ll also have Sundried Tomato Pesto!  Stop by with mom for the freshest homemade hummus to serve up at your Mother’s Day gathering!
